Title of the project : Copper, a menace for aquatic life
Summary of the research project :
With the rise of mining exploitation, waterways are increasingly contaminated, this has consequences on living organisms. It is essential to measure and predict the effects to manage efficiently the affected areas. This study is focused on the identification of new indicators of the effect of copper, a contaminating metal, on the organic communities of biofilms. Biofilms house a large variety of organisms such as viruses, bacteria, micro-algua, fungus, and micromejofauna, even though the lather one is barely studied. Because of their distribution, ease of sampling and reactivity to environmental changes, these organisms of the biofilm are potential indicators of contaminations or environmental disturbances.
